Ready to Work helps its participants gain skills and find work, moving them toward self-sufficiency and eliminating the barriers to employment. Anyone who is part of the New London Homeless Hospitality Center community at its help center or emergency shelter can participate.
Participants in this program will receive:
► New or replacement IDs, cell phones and service cards, business materials
► Employment Guidance/General Case Management
► Readiness Training (Applying w/a Criminal Record, Interview Prep, Life Skills, Work
Expectations & Motivation)
► One-on-one resume creation/application assistance
► Access to HHC’s employer partnerships (Mohegan Sun, Fiddleheads, Careco Shoreline, etc.)
► ADA information and advocacy
► Transportation Support (cab rides, uber, car repairs, registration, insurance, back taxes, travel
training, long-term paratransit vouchers)
► Access to hygiene products, clothing for interviews, uniforms, tools, and assistive technology
► Funding for short-term training/education, recertification/endorsement costs (Ed2Go, OSHA,
PSL)
► Links to community resources (OIC, Three Rivers, AFL, Root Center, TVCCA, AJC, BRS, BESB,
Maturity Works, etc.).
The State of Connecticut’s SNAP program partly funds Ready to Work. Other funders include the Liberty Bank Foundation, The James P. & Mary E. Shea Perpetual Trust, the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, M&T Bank, and the Chamber of Commerce of Southeast Connecticut.
